The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has a national commitment through its vision for the protection and promotion of rights of women and children through ensuring gender equality and elimination of all forms of violence against women and children in Sri Lanka. There are five agencies functioning under the purview of the Ministry which is; National Committee on Women, Sri Lanka Women’s Bureau, National Child Protection Authority, Department of Probation and Child Care Services and Children’s Secretariat. The Ministry and above mentioned five agencies play a prominent role in ensuring the well-being of women and children by dedicating towards their protection, growth, and development with the support of the extensive field network functioning at the District, Divisional and Grama Niladhari level.
As the Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, I will be committed to providing a better future for our children and women by working immensely towards safeguarding their rights and ensuring child and women development. Children and Women Development is a field that faces evolving new challenges day by day which stimulates the need to further enrich our knowledge and skills in order to face such challenges. I believe this Ministry, with its various agencies, can take concrete actions to bring about positive changes and ensure that appropriate mechanisms and measures are in place to protect and promote child and women rights, identify areas that need improvement and commit to improving protection and promotion of human rights to develop a safe and a conducive environment for children and women in Sri Lanka.
