Community-based Program on the Safe use of Modern Technology, the Internet, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Above training program was successfully conducted on 20th November 2025 in Vanathawilluwa Divisional Secretariat Division by the Planning, Monitoring and Information Technology Division of the Ministry. 

The main resource contribution to this program was provided by Mr. Nirosh Ananda from the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team [SLCERT], while Officer In charge of Vanathawilluwa Police Station Mr. Sumudu Senanayake gave a discussion-based approach regarding issues related to the use of modern technology within the Vanathawilluwa Police Division and community-based interventions for prevention.

Furthermore, a speech on functions of the Internal Affairs Unit of the Ministry, focusing on accountability of officers and the responsibilities of the public in delivering transparent public services under the new government procedures has conducted by Mr. J.P.S. Jayasinghe, officer in charge of the IAU unit and the Director General of the Planning, Monitoring and Information Technology division of the Ministry. 

Additionally, under the guidance and supervision of the Vanathawilluwa Divisional Secretary, an Additional District Registrar educated the public attending the program about the importance of birth certificates and informed them about necessary actions to expedite the issuance of certificates for children identified without birth certificates. Besides the 7 families previously identified without birth certificates, 4 more children were identified on this day and steps were taken to refer them for proper procedures.

This involvement was facilitated through the mediation of the Puttalam District Secretary and included the active participation of Women and Child related officers from the Puttalam District and other Divisional Secretariats.

Further, this program was conducted successfully with the participation of officials from the Ministry, officers from the Vanathawilluwa Police Division, teachers from Vanathawilluwa Primary Schools, officials from the Vanathawilluwa Pradeshiya Sabhawa, and the community.
