Inauguration of the Project for Providing Access to Justice for Victims of Sexual and Gender-based Violence

Inauguration of the project for providing access to justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence to be implemented jointly by the Ministry of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, United Nations Development Programe and the United Nations Population Fund with the financial contribution of the High Commission of Canada in Sri Lanka, was held this morning (12.05.2023) at the United Nations Head Office in Colombo under the patronage of Hon.Dr.Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe MP,PC, Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, and Mrs. Geetha Samanmalee Kumarasinghe, State Minister of Women and Child Affairs.

This project will be implemented for a period of five years with the aim of eliminating domestic harassment and sexual violence in Sri Lanka and raising public awareness about the same.

Mr. Azusa Kubota, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Development Fund, Mr.Eric Walsh, High Commissioner for Canada in Sri Lanka, Mr.Kunle Adeniyi, Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Development Fund, expressed their views at this event and Mrs.Thalatha Athukorala MP, Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle MP, Mrs.Wasantha Perera, Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, diplomats, officials of the United Nations Development Fund and government officials were present on this occasion.
