Community based programs to prevent sexual and gender based violence - Puttalam District, Wanathavilluwa Divisional Secretariat
The Planning and Information Technology Division of this Ministry has successfully conducted a programme for 300 target families in the Wanathavilluwa Divisional Secretariat Division of Puttalam District, at the Auditorium of Wanathavilluwa Pradeshiya Sabha on Saturday, 08.06.2024 from 8.30 am to 4.30 p.m.
Representatives of the Australian High Commission, Puttalam District Secretary, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Puttalam Range, Vanathavilluwa Divisional Secretary, OIC of Vanathavilluwa Police Station, Principals of schools in Vanathavilluwa area, hospital staff and other resource persons participated in the inauguration. More than 300 persons including children, parents, pre-school teachers, hospital staff and groups in need of services participated in the programme.
The guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Chaminda Weerasiriwardena.
In this program, many activities related to protection, care and qualitative development of children were carried out in respect of the participants with the resources and under the sponsorship of Foundation for Innovative Social Development (FISD).
Mobile Service – Concurrently, a mobile service was provided for the parents, guardians and the community to educate them about the functions and services of this Ministry as per their requirements and referred to the relevant services.
Job fair - Arrangements were also made to hold a job fair at the Elpis Lanka Pvt Ltd, a garment factory in Ekala, Ja Ela.
Awareness on reproductive health for marriage intended couples – Arrangements had been made by the Ministry and Wanathavilluwa Hospital staff to provide the service.
Counseling Service Facilities - Facilities for obtaining necessary family counseling services were also provided.
This program held for the community in need of services, including children, parents and guardians, was praised by everyone, and a follow-up program will be organized in the near future.
